Campaign: The Fallen - All Alone in the Night

Time Frame:  395 years after the Second Great War; 895 years after the First Great War

Starting Character Level: 3

Premise:

A few years before the events detailed in "Between the Darkness and the Night" a group of  over 100 colonists  have decided, for various reasons, to leave the world of Tymora. The group of 100 is divided into the following groups:

About a fourth of the colonists are followers of a Seer that believes Tymora is doomed. The Seer is the unofficial 'leader' of the colonists, and the one who originally organized the trip. The others answered her worldwide call for whatever reason.

Around another fourth of the colonists are members of the Acolytes of the Infinite Eye - Dragon Disciples, who wish to follow in the footsteps of the ancient dragons and travel the universe.

The other half are a random mix of people - merchants, wanderers, perhaps even some criminals. Specifically, there are members from each of the following groups:

The Covenant of the Phoenix - a group of Paladins devoted to toward an ascetic lifestyle, in hope of becoming more in harmony with the universe.

The Rangers - a few Rangers have decided to come with the colonists, believing that their purpose is not to protect Tymora, but its inhabitants - no matter where they may be.

A small group of Zalaern mages and their slaves.

The rest come from all sorts of life. Your characters specifically are not forced into any role - you're welcome to play a character in any one of these groups, or any other character I approve.

The biggest change is the open-endedness of this campaign. After the initial setup sessions, what you do and where you go depends almost entirely on you. There are two catches to this:

1) The ENTIRE party must agree what you are doing. I can't keep track of separate players running around doing their own thing.

2) If you decide on some specific course of action (ie, leaving the colony, etc.) You must decide OOCly at the end of the session what you want to do next session, so I can prepare accordingly.

I'm also open to any ideas you have. I have very little pre-thought out about this campaign - including the ending - so anything you can come up with, I'd love to hear. If you think your character has a story telling worth a session or two of playing, I'd be happy to help you realize it.

The campaign will begin the second day after arrival in the colony, after a several-day-long journey from the location of the portal - this ensures no one from Tymora could find the colony without a significant amount of effort.   For the past half year, followers of the Seer have been constructing the colony, therefore many of the buildings are already finished upon the arrival of the colonists.

The colony is randomly divided into 5 housing units called "dormitories", each containing somewhere between 20 and 25 people.  The party will all be members of the same dormitory.  The leaders of the colony are a five-person  consisting of a representative of each dormitory, elected once every five months.  Dormitories will occasionally be given assignments by the council - this helps divide up the work equally between the colonists, and ensures that everyone does their part.  Transfers between dormitories are rare, as it is desired they be as close in population size as possible - and space is limited enough as it is.

The following laws have been established in the colony:

1. You will not kill any of your fellow colonists.

2. You will not steal from your fellow colonists.

3. Zalaern slaves who were slaves before the journey will maintain their status, but no new slaves will be created.

Any violation of these laws will be investigated and judged by one of the five dormitories, typically a third-party  dormitory that was not involved with either the suspect or the victim of the crime.  Being found guilty typically results in exile, except in more minor crimes such as theft.

Let me know if you have any questions.   I won't force you to fill out a character sheet, just give me the basic idea of your character - name, age, sex, class, and why they joined the colonists.

How To Join: You have likely already been invited to join the campaign.  If so, the DM will contact you about deadlines, character sheets, etc.  These dates will also be posted on the webpage for your convenience.
