Campaign: The Fallen - Between the Darkness and the Light

Time Frame:  499 years after the Second Great War; 999 years after the First Great War

Starting Character Level: 5

Premise: In the years following the end of the Second Great War, the Rangers assumed a new role in the development of Tymora.  While not abandoning their previous post as guardians against The Fallen - ever wary of their possible return in large numbers - they also took up the task of defending humanity from its greatest adversary - itself.

Acknowledging that the original invasion of The Fallen was, at its core, the result of human corruption, the two largest human nations - Azderan, and later, after its reformation, Zalaer - agreed to grant the Rangers the right to act as an impartial police force throughout the world of Tymora.  Although the Rangers were forced to make certain concessions regarding their own independence in order to guarantee they remained impartial, they were given authority over local security forces, thus placing them above and beyond any possible corruption or bias in their ranks.

In this campaign, you will play a Ranger recruit.  Beyond racial restrictions, this is the only qualification on your character.  Who they are, what they are, and why they joined the Rangers, is all up to you.  The first episode will deal with your character's final tests before joining the ranks of the Rangers, so keep this in mind when you create your character  Beyond that, it is up to you - it is suggested you read the fiction that is, or soon will be, on this site, and choose the sort of character that would interest you the most.  After all, in the end, the players are why this campaign exists, so make sure you choose something you know you'll enjoy.

Note that, especially at first, your characters will be under the direct command of their superiors in the Ranger hierarchy.  This means their freedom of movement will be limited, to the most part, to the Ranger compound and  anywhere they are ordered.  Also, each episode will usually be a 'mission' for the Ranger team, so if you can't make a session, it is easy to explain away as your character had different orders, was injured, sick, etc.  The campaign will be divided into 5 episode mini-arcs that will tell an individual story in and of itself, but will also contribute to the main story arc.  About 2/3rds the way through the campaign, the mission-based design of the campaign will vanish and the full story arc will kick in.  This should allow players, at least until the final leg of the campaign, to join and leave at any time without too much disruption.  I can still try to work players in after this, but it will be significantly harder.
